about

Her Musical Journey

Sherry grew up in a musical family in Tainan, Taiwan, where everyone learned music from the age of three and played at least two instruments. At just seven years old, she was accepted into a Government-Sponsored Music Gifted Program where she majored in Piano and minored in Violin. By age nine, she was already performing with an orchestra.

Her early experiences also included summer programs led by the prestigious Manhattan School of Music (New York City, USA), where her love for performance and teaching deepened.

After immigrating to Canada, Sherry became Concertmaster (Lead Violinist) at Silverthorne Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke, Ontario, while also conducting and accompanying the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church Choir in Toronto.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Music and Teaching

Sherry has trained under distinguished teachers such as Jeannie Wang, Dr. Kent McWilliams, Dr. Francine Kay, Boyd McDonald, and Dagmar Rydlo. She also studied accompaniment, pedagogy, and theory with Leslie De’Ath, Terry Kroetsch, Larysa Kuzmenko, Dr. Janet Lopinsky, and Peteris Zarins.

Sherry’s teaching style blends structure with warmth, encouraging every student to develop strong technique and a personal connection to music. She believes that:

  • Every student learns differently — lessons should adapt to the individual.

  • Progress comes from patience, clarity, and positive reinforcement.

  • Musical expression matters as much as technical mastery.

  • Music is a lifelong skill that enriches confidence, discipline, and joy.

“My goal is to help each student discover the beauty of music — not just to play notes, but to truly feel them.”Sherry Chang
